This bread soaked in wine and eggs then fried, has been known since 15th century and it has a strongly religious meaning. Torrijas are typically made during Lent. The combination of the bread leftovers and the wine reminds the communion and it symbolizes Jesus' resurrection There is a version which replaces wine with milk
