Buckies

Caracolillos de mar
Buckies or periwinkles are native to the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, along the coasts of northern Spain, Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia. This species appears in prehistoric shellfish middens throughout Europe, and is believed to have be en an important source of food since at least 7500 BC in Scotland. They are mostly eaten in the coastal areas of Green Spain. They are boiled in their local salt water and bay leaves. Some pins are attached to a cork to enable the extraction of the soft parts from the shell.
