Castilian double mashed potatoes is typical from the mountain ranges of Salamanca and Avila. Pimentón de la Vera (Smoked Spanish paprika) turns this dish into a delicacy. Pimentón de la Vera has been cultivated since 1493, when Columbus brought it from America as an offering to the Catholic Monarchs in Guadalupe monastery in Extremadura.
